1989

The Playhouse changed hands and management in 1988. The theatre attempted to go "Hollywood" for a season as stars returned again for a series of musicals and plays. The season started in May but ended abruptly in September. Through the season, audiences saw Brian Bedford in Educating Rita, Tammy Grimes in a one woman show and Shelley Berman and Nolan Van Way in La Cage aux Folles. Inspite of the critical acclaim the new production company garnered, they ended up losing money and current Playhouse owner, Ralph Miller was called back in 1989 to save the theatre from permanently closing down.
